Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Cities For 2011 - Tel-Aviv Ranked no. 3

“Tel Aviv is a modern Sin City on the sea rather than an ancient Holy City on a hill. Hedonism is the one religion that unites its  inhabitants. There are more bars than synagogues,  God is a DJ and everyone’s body is a temple”.These exact words were chosen by Lonely Planet to describe Tel Aviv, and they were well thought of.

Tel Aviv is miles away from all the political debates and conflicts which have become synonym with Israel. Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel, after the capital Jerusalem, and even though it is frequently referred to as Israel's capital it is not, yet, it is definitely the Israeli capital of good life. In the last few years Tel Aviv became a much desired tourist destination and today it is considered one of the most recommended Break City Vacations in the region and worldwide.

So why did the city become such a popular destination? First, just looking at the city slogan "Tel Aviv – The City that Never Stops" you get the gist of it. And these are not just words as this best represents Tel Aviv, the city that never stops creating attractions, making the city an adults' play ground. And if this does not convince you, here are several other reasons why Tel Aviv became so popular.

The beaches – Tel Aviv enjoys 14 kilometers of beautiful beaches stretching from it's north end all the way down to Jaffa at its south. The beaches are clean and pleasant and the water temperature during summer is between 25-30oC!! Meaning the water is absolutely super-nice. Furthermore, unlike many other destinations worldwide, Tel Aviv enjoys great warm weather, so in fact you can take pleasure in the perfect bathing season starting May 1st and until the 1st of November. Indeed, even in winter there are many days suitable for going to the sea.

Night life – This paragraph should indeed be a full page, just because there is so much to say about the Tel Aviv night life. Tel Aviv is definitely the night life capital of the region, and some say of the entire world. Starting at 9 pm and until 6-7 am you can enjoy any of the numerous bars / pubs / night clubs / parties happening all over the city. Each night tens of parties addressing all kinds of partygoers are on the go – for those who like trans-music, hip-hop, mainstream and so forth. And if parties are not your cup of tea, there are numerous lively yet less noisy bars. Furthermore, Tel Aviv is considered the number one destination for the Gay population due to its lively night life, and is a strong competitor to Berlin and San Francisco.

The restaurants – Tel Aviv is regarded as the culinary capital of Israel and the entire Middle East. Tens of excellent restaurants can be found all over the city. From high end exclusive restaurants to simple laborers diners which can make you drool with delight. And in Tel Aviv just like in Tel Aviv some of the restaurants are open 24 hours a day enabling you to jump over for a bite after an exciting alcohol-filled evening. All the restaurants share one common feature – a combination of various Israeli flavors. This may cause you to gain a few pounds while vacationing in Tel Aviv, but you can look down at your new grown belly with pleasure, wearing the smile you gained here as well.

The culture, art and history - Up to now it sounds like Tel Aviv is like a teenager interested only in sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, but have no mistake, this city holds much cultural and artistic character. The city is filled with various museums and amazing art galleries such as the famous Ilana Gur gallery. Moreover you may be taken by the architecture of the city, which became well-known when UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage Site designated for historical preservations of its buildings due to their unique architectural character, or, alternatively visit Jaffa (an old Tel Aviv neighborhood) which concentrates many fascinating stories and sites worth of visiting.

And underlying all that we have mentioned above, the true secret to Tel Aviv is the ambience, the feeling all of its inhabitants create together. The city lets you feel anything is possible and permitted (as long as it's legal, of course) and no one would judge you.
So, if all we have told you here caught your curiosity and made you excited, or even jealous and gives you the feeling of "I have to go there", don't hesitate. Pack your bags and simply come over – you will not regret it!!
