Habima is the Israeli National Theatre. The theatre is located at the
beginning of Rothschild Boulevard at the boulevard's most northerly point. The
area has recently undergone thorough renovations costing more than 100 million
shekels!
The corner stone of Habima theatre was laid in 1935, but the theatre was
established as early as 1917. From then until now the theatre has operated as
Israel's national theatre and the venue for Israel's greatest theatrical
productions. In 2007 renovations began on the old building, they continued for
4 years because of various complications in the building process of the
theatre. Habima itself occupies a large open space in the centre of the city
and in the theatre plaza there are restaurants and cafes for the general
public.
