Florentin Neighborhood Tel Aviv
Southern Tel Aviv has a neighborhood named Florentin, that is a unique neighborhood that has an intriguing combination of the young and old, trendy and poor and industrial and residential. Florentin just like Jaffa has its charm, but was unable to overcome its financial difficulties, right from the start things did not really work out as planned. The neighborhood originally was meant to accommodate a community of newcomers and it was supposed to be simple and pretty. It was founded by people who originally came from Greece and Turkey. Most of the residents started to leave the neighborhood and moved further north. Today most of the people who live in Florentin are Israel foreign workers, students and long time residents. The area is poor and the municipality tried to improve the living conditions by means of remodeling the infrastructure or trying to promote educational social activities with no effect, the place is still a mess.
Although during the day it is a busy place with people constantly shopping or visiting the excellent levinsky market. Florentin was really expected to succeed and after a successful television show featuring the Florentin neighborhood as its set. Since that TV show Florentin has become a trendy and youthful place with many bars and cafes. Many artists and students have started to set up shop there. Amongst the many café's and bars a very popular one is the Bagsy bar which serves one of the best hamburgers. a popular café' you should go to is the charming Shirale Espresso Bar , if Hummus is your fancy you must not miss the excellent hummus in "Hummus Beit Lehem" which is located on Vital street.
